Oh, no! Blech. Yeeps. Gahhh.
My eyes!
This week's Netflix selection is A Room with a View. A movie I have loved since I was in High School. A turn of the century English romance, based on the book by E.M. Forster. I have seen it many times. Love it.
Have you seen it?
So, tonight I'm watching it again. And Oh. My. Gosh.
What is this, the X-Rated version. The ADULT movie?
You know the pond scene, where they accidentally come across the boys bathing? In my memory there is just a brief rear-end shot and a lot of splashing. Not in this version. There was some serious full nudity. Lots. Ew! It is burned in my brain....
Waaaaaa.....

Okay, ARE there two versions?
Because my freshman year of college, my roommates and I rented it to watch and we saw more that night than some of us will see in a lifetime. We were all shocked, and then of course, I thought it was hilarious. A bunch of 18 and 19 year old girls at a church school. But that pond scene WAS bad.
That's so funny! I remember totally cracking up at the pond scene and being shocked too, for the same reasons as Nobody said. Wowee!
p.s. I do love that movie though.
I haven't seen it and now I can't accidently see it, so I guess I never will. ;)
NOOOoooOOOOO!
*Tries to forget*
So YOU'RE who my stake president was talking about last Sunday!!!!!
I just happened to come acrossed your blog and wanted you to know I really enjoyed it :)
Hmmmm, I don't think I've ever seen that movie! Yikes!
I had the same problem with one of my favorites, Cinema Paradiso. I had seen it a couple times growing up and once at a BYU International Film Festival. I remember it being a sweet story, so I am sure I always caught the edited versions. I tried renting it recently, and apparently, there is a VERY rated R version with some graphic "love" scenes and such. Totally shocking! My husband kept asking "what are you watching?" and I kept thinking, "this wasn't in here before!!"
NObody - I'm reading the little netflix envelope and it says "Special Edition (Includes entire film)" so I think there must be a more family friendly version. I'm not sure, though.
Mary - I'm almost sure that the version we watched at home was not THIS version. I remember hoping mom wasn't watching the pond scene when we were kids, but this was much worse...
Millie - what did he say about me? I hope he liked my new dress...
Hi LIsa!
Jessica - That's exactly what I was thinking - this wasn't in there before....
I'm confused?! So, are the actors the same in both versions that you saw or is this newer one totally different?? I'd be willing to put it on our queue if I know I can find a 'clean' version.
Deanne - it is the same movie, just a little less edited, you know? Filmed in 1986, I think. Same actors. Same everything. There was just more to the pond scene than I was prepared for... I'm going to go check netflix to see if I can find the original version...
Just back - I can only find the special edition at Netflix. one commenter said:
I liked this movie after I bought a copy that was edited but the unedited has a lot of full male nudity.
I'm glad to read that I'm not crazy - this version was definately not the one I had seen before...
Let me know if you find the edited version!
see mom?
I TOLD YOU SO!
did you think i was overreacting to a little butt?
no way.
it was the worst experience OF MY LIFE.
Oh Hannah. hahahahahahaha!
hahahahahaha!
You poor thing!
Hannah - Shoot - I forgot that you read this....I was too embarrassed to admit that I let you watch it before me. I'm so sorry. Do you want me to sign you up for some group counselling? Or scrub your eyes out with scouring powder?
anatomy lesson completed.
Mary - hahahahaha indeed.
Mother - yes, counselling would be nice. I already scrubbed my own eyes out with scouring powder.
i have not seen the movie but i am totally going to see it now!!!! ;)
Erin, sorry we have corrupted you!
thanks for the, um, "warning." I will take that under advisement. (Now how do I sign up for Netflix again?) ;-)
