And BINGO was his Name-O

Last night was the Middle School family bingo night. I was cooerced into helping the PTA put on this big activity. I want to volunteer my time at the middle school, just not so much at a bingo night. But I helped anyway.

I attended 2 planning meetings where we spent hours deciding if 15 bingo games was too much and if we should charge more for water than soda. I helped address envelopes to local businesses asking for donations. (Which I thought was so silly, why would they donate to a Bingo Night?)

Hannah had a YW camp certification activity, so she couldn't go, and I was trying to think of a way to just not go, but we went early and helped set up. Then passed out sodas. Then we played BINGO. And Emily and Sydney loved it!

And we won! We won! BINGO!

Emily won a bingo round and recieved a Spa Gift basket full of bubble bath and lotion and an eye mask. She was so cute when she yelled out BINGO and ran to the front of the room for her prize.

John won a door prize drawing of $25 to City Mill - a local hardware store. Yippee!

And I won a box of hand blown wine glasses! We don't drink a lot of wine, and one of the other mom's had talked and talked about those glasses, so when they won a basket of cards and paper, we traded.

The prizes were incredible: a $100 gift card to Walmart, $50 to a game place, lots of restaurant $ cards, a family zoo membership, fun gift baskets, 10 free hot wings at Hooters!, a $50 jewelry card, and 43 $1 Wendy's coupons! I was so suprised by all the donations. How generous.

So BINGO Night was fun. We had a fun time setting up and cleaning up. We enjoyed the pizza and only spilled a little bit of our soda. We had fun marking our bingo cards, and we LOVED winning! When we left, John was still wondering when we were going to sing about the dog...

Is Bingo like gambling?

If it was a school fund raiser then it's not gambling. Sounds like you had a great time.

So you don't drink a lot of wine - but you do drink a little? ;)

I don't think it's gambling unless you pay to play.

Wait...what does "we don't drink a lot of wine" mean exactly. Hmmmm. Would you have gone to Hooters if you'd have won? Just curious.

Eureka! (Remember our old neighbor Mary from Modesto who used to say that a lot?) What great prizes! How fun!

About the wine, did you read Wendy's story about getting loose and silly on rum cake? Yeah, she's big into the vino! ;)

I'm not sure about the whole gambling thing at school, Bingo is harmless so I agree that's it ok. It's the Hooter's thing that has me weirded out!

Carrot and Deanne - I was wondering who sent out the donation request to Hooters! Odd.

Millie and Carrot - We never drink wine - sheesh didn't you get the WofW memo? but I do like to use fancy glasses for sparkling cider on special occasions.

Mary - I forgot all about our neighbor Mary. Were you still across the street when she moved in, Deanne? Ah, Irish Wiskey Cake.... the good stuff.

Yes, I remember our friendly neighbor Merry (she had told us one time that is how you spelled her name, said it was like Merry Christmas, that's how I remember). She past away a couple years after we all moved. My parents and I attended her service. What I remember most about her was that she brought over a soup when my grandmother passed away and when she did she had been hittin' the sauce, if you know what I mean! She was a very nice and talkative lady. Merry Rash, that was her name (wow, can't believe I remembered her last name!!!)

I can’t believe how popular bingo has become in the last few years! It seems like everyman and his dog is playing so I decided to give it a go, I originally went to the halls but after a while of not winning I packed that in and decided to do it at home and play some online bingo instead. They were easier and there’s more variation and interesting people to chat to! The recent rise of bingo is amazing - one site has over 3 million members! Unbelievable!
