Remind me not to be like that mom -

I'm sure glad I had my little No Valentine's Pitty Party last week. Today one of the mom's at school (to ensure full discloser I have to mention that I do not like this mom. There is something about here that grates on my last nerve. Actually a few somethings, one of which is her voice. It is loud and also rude.) Back to that mom, today she asked her friend if the kids were supposed to decorate shoes boxes for the valentines. Her friend said, I don't know.

Thinking I would be helpful, I said (with a kind smile,) "They are not having a Valentine Party."

The mom said "What? I have NEVER heard that!" So I said, "Yes, that is what Ms. Y said, they won't be having a Valentine party, but my daughter is going to bring a little valentine that she made for her teacher."

The mom said a few more times in her nails-on-the-chalkboard-voice "I have NEVER heard a teacher say that. I can't believe it." etc.

It was so tacky. And embarrassing.

Good thing I would never do anything like that.

I'm glad I had a week to get over my own shock, because now I agree with Ms. Y and think a big fat messy Valentine's Party would be over doing it. Instead they will be cutting out hearts and using them to add with for math. And they will be writing on heart shaped paper. And they will have a full day of learning and no extra sugar, then they can go home and be loved all over by the people who love them the most!

I think your kids will experience your love more because they didn't get loved on all day at school with sugar and cards! You will make the day special for them. You know why??? 'Cause your a cool mom! :)

I love you Wendy, you are fun! I hope your family has a nice Valentines together and that Syd has a fun Chinese New Year at school!

I sometimes wonder why the teachers/schools haven't outlawed all sugar related holidays because of the mass chaos it creates in the classroom. I guess that would pretty much take away all holidays (not to mention the fun) with the exception of maybe Thanksgiving.

I agree with Deanne, you are a cool mom. Have a great day lovin on your kids. :D

I'm glad my school district hasn't outlawed Valentine's Day parties yet. They have to do some pretty fancy footwork with Christmas as it is...

I think you have a very postive outlook. And that mom needs to go to charm school.

When I live close to you I'll remind you, in fact, I'll roll my eyes at her whenever she talks.
I love your "full disclosure", I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like that towards certain people. I'm opretty nice, but sometimes I feel like Seinfeld, you know how picky he was about girlfriends? Yeah, like that.

So anyways, we’ll roll our eyes, and not hug, it will be great!

I think if we know that there are people who bug us, and then we deal with them extra-careful because we know that they're on our bad list, it helps us to be more tolerant--I mean, we can still blog about them in private, right? ;)
Our school has a big policy on healthy eating/healthy rewards for kids. So school parties can only have so much sugar. Drinks are always going to be water. Rewards are rarely going to be food. Stuff like that. Today I'm taking cheese slices I cut into heart shapes with a cookie cutter, and whole wheat crackers. Do you think the kids will eat that, or the cuppycakes?!

I can see the pros and cons of not having and having a Vday party too.

I hate annoying people like that lady you don't like. Ugh.
