Can't Sleep

It is 1:39am and I can't sleep.

The stupid fire alarm keeps squawking at me.

So I dragged over a chair and changed the 9 volt battery.

And it still squawked at me.

So I dragged the chair back over and took the whole dang thing out of the ceiling and took the new battery out. And it still squawked.

So I wrapped it in 3 blankets and put it in my closet and fell asleep for about 1 minute....until it squawked again.

I took that bundle of blankets and the fire alarm and stuffed it out in the storage room in the garage. Problem solved.....

I thought.

Until I heard another squawk and realized there is another fire alarm upstairs.

I didn't even attempt to change the battery. I carried a chair upstairs and took the whole thing out of the ceiling and walked it directly out to the car.

I really need some sleep.

ps - I hope the house doesn't burn down tonight...

pps - I can't believe it. I just heard another

squawk....

HELP!

Wendy, I had to laugh - sorry! What a miserable night. I hope you were able to get some sleep after you got rid of the last one. Putting them in the car was brilliant! mom

Thanks guys. When I heard the last squawk I looked around the house and realized there were 4 more fire alarms...Aaaaa!

I figured out that it was the one in my bedroom that was going off...so I pulled it down and ran it out to the car. I was so jittery and wide awake that I watched most of a movie before I fell asleep. waaaa!

I better get a nap today!

I'm glad that you figured out where all that squawking was coming from! I'd not be a happy camper either. You should sleep really good tonight! :)

HA HA I had a fire alarm malfunction in the middle of the night, it was the kind that plug into a special outlet in the ceiling (How safe can that be?). It went off full loudness like there was a fire at 2 am. I couldn't figure out what the noise was, then I got up and realized it was a fire alarm. Looked around the house... no fire. SO I went and I got a chair (I hate loud noises), at this point I am practically paralyzed standing there with my hands over my ears trying to figure out how I ma going to get close to it. I get on my chair and I am abotu a foot too short to reach it. So I get a taller, rolly computer chair. Holding on to the door so I don;t fall standing on my tip toes STILL to short. I go back in room and shut the door. Definitely too loud to go back to sleep. SO I DRAG over my huge old trunk, I can't even lift the thing. I empty out an old milk crate that I keep computer stuff in, and throw the stuff on the floor. I put the crate upside down on the trunk and stand on it and RIP THE ALARM off the ceiling which unplugs it. I trudge back to sleep. I get up in the morning there are chairs and stuff everywhere under this fire alarm. The maintenance ppl come and plug it in and it goes off. Apparently it was just a bad fire alarm.
I was considering going to work and sleeping at the barn before I got the trunk.

Jenna - that's too funny. Balanced on a milk crate on a chest! There were kitchen chairs all over the house this morning!

tori - that's just mean!

deanne - I better!

Hey aren't you supposed to check those batteries when you set your clock ahead/behind every 6 months? Oh, wait, you don't have to change your clocks.

Why is it that the batteries always go out in the middle of the night? I have never had one squak during the daytime.

Jenna-some landlords put the plug in outlets in rentals because renters would steal the 9v batteries, or never replace them. I think they hope if there is a fire it isn't electrical?!

Heather and Jenna - our fire detectors have BOTH a battery and a string of wires connecting it to the house. I think the battery is for if the power goes out, but you'd think if it's all plugged in they could work some kind of rechargable battery thingy...

Oh my goodness, Wendy this post reminded me of an Episode of Friends where Phoebe can't get the smoke alarm to stop sqwawking so she puts it down the garbage shoot...but then the police bring it back to her!

That squawk sound really is annoying, especially in the middle of the night!

LOL I did not know that! Mine just has plugs, I can't believe people would steal batteries. The funniest part of the evening was me standing there with my hand over my ears beside myself about what to do next.
