School's In

Keeping us safe on the way to school

At School

And all the way home

I think the big military man crossing guards are odd in a futuristic war movie kind of way, but I do appreciate them. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but one day last year they saved John's life.

John was riding in the jogging stroller, while Emily and Sydney were riding their bikes. As we crossed the intersection in the above picture, Emily had some trouble getting her bike up onto the curb. I let go of the stroller and turned to give Emily's bike a boost up. While my back was turned, John's stroller rolled backwards off the sidewalk, bumped down the curb, and kept on rolling into the street.

I didn't notice, but the crossing guard did! He ran across the street, swooped up the stroller from middle of the road out of the direct path of a zooming white van, and held onto it for me until my hands were free. (bad mom award) When I thanked him, he said (you won't believe me, but he really did say this:) "Just doing my job, ma'am."

Wow, what a heart-stopping story! I am amazed at what the crossing guard said. How kind he was to not berate you in any way. Kudos to him! And by the way...your not a bad mom, these things happen and it is not a reflection on your role as a mother. From your blog, I gather that you are an awesome mom and I wanna be like you when I grow up! *hugs* :)

So scary. But just an accident, not your fault. You were doing your best. What a blessing that guard was there.

How cool is that?? Don't feel bad. I let go of the grocery cart on the way out of W@lmart to pick up something that fell off the bottom. The cart, with Livie in it, rolled on out into traffic. A man ran after it and pushed it out to my car for me. And, um, there were A LOT of witnesses...

What awesome crossing guards. "Just doing my job ma'am" haha! I wonder if the guards think, "Did I sign up for the army to do this?" I bet it beats Iraq any day though!

That last picture is cute with the soldier guy smiling and little John walking with his boxers hanging from his little shorts :)

Wow, how cool is the whole army guy crossing guard? We need one of those, only because we live in a bad neighborhood.

I'm sure glad the crossing guard was there to help you Wendy. John looks so grown up now in the pictures. And so do the girls. Our school starts on the 21st. Where did the summer go? And we don't get a month off at Christmas either. Love, mom

That's terrifying! Glad they are there keeping you safe. I've had a runaway grocery cart incident that was similar, so don't feel too bad!

That is such a cool story! It's nice to know that there are such stand up guys still in the world.

I'm still working on your burpcloths. You haven't given up on me yet, have you? :)

That is so scary! Luckily the crossing guard was there. Once at Walmart when Megan was brand new the twins were hanging on the grocery cart and managed to flip it over. Luckily Megan was strapped in her carseat and was unharmed, but I was SOOOOO embarassed. I was right in front of the pharmacy and man I've never seen so many people move so fast to come help.
