The B-ONE

My husband's "real" job in the Air Force is flying in the B-1 bomber. The B-1b, affectionately called the Bone is a super-sonic bomber. It flies really fast, and has a powerful roar on take off - what a cool air plane!

Back in the Air Force, my husband's job is to drop the bombs. For the next couple years he is calling in those bombs from the ground with the Army. He is kind of like an exchange student - an Air Force ambassador of bomber goodwill to the Army.

The B-1 community is pretty small as there aren't very many of the planes. The B-1 is only located at two bases, so you always know someone who knows someone who you know...

As we were moving I was mourning the loss of close friends, and I didn't think I would really miss that B-1 "community" but I read an article today that brought all those green flightsuit memories back to me. I miss you B-ONE.

A friend, Jon, wrote that Day in the Life of article about a B-1 swap out. It looks like it is a series, so we will get to read more next week.

Jon, you're a great writer! You should start your own B-1 Blog!

Community is always nice to have. I just like the sound the breaking speed of sound barrier planes make. Amazing!!

That article was very cool. It is so interesting to see what all goes into a flight like that. I guess it isn't just like hopping into a car for a quick trip is it?

I still love that picture of you in your flight suit dress.

That was soooo cool to read that article by Jon. He should write his own B-1 blog!

Everytime I go on base or hear a B-1 buzz our house I just love it! It must be such a rush to be a pilot, to be on the plane. I just think it is soooo cool! What a fun job to have. I know that they, along with their families, make many sacrifices and it is not an easy life. But what a rush it must be.

Though Janene did say to my husband recently after he helped her fix a problem on her car that Scott's skill's (in comparison to Jon's) are pretty handy. If Scott needed help flying a plane, Jon was his guy. lol Given the chance, Scott would probably trade jobs in a heart beat!

"He is kind of like an exchange student - an Air Force ambassador of bomber goodwill to the Army. " LOL! That is hilarious. I was just thinking today about how cool a M240B machine gun is. Wow. That some cool stuff.

Wow your husband is just as cool as you are! Did he always want to do that as a boy or did he grow into it? I can just see a little boy saying, "I think the coolest thing ever would be to drop bombs when I'm grown up!" :)
