Hello, Hello, Are you still there?

What a busy week!

Camp meetings
Activity Day Girls Swimming Party
Denist appointments (no cavities!)
Towel sewing for a little shop up on the North Shore!
Which required a dozen trips to WaWaWorld
Friends from out of town
YM/YW swim party
and more

The problem with being so busy is that my mind starts to go, then I have to start playing charades to finish sentences. Waaa! Maybe I need to start just filling in with da kine...

Girl's Camp runs from Tuesday to Friday and I'm about as prepared as I'm going to be. T-shirts look great. Banner is painted. Notebooks are assembled. Tent assignments are not done (oops, forgot about that.) Priesthood reminders have been made.

Tomorrow I will do our big grocery trip and pull out our camping gear and go to bed early. Our camp schedule calls for ward testimony/scripture time until 11pm, and we have to be up for a 6am flag ceremony. Did I mention that I don't always function well on limited sleep?

Here's hoping no big bugs get inside my sleeping bag...

My sister, Laurie, recently wrote about Mommy Mantra's - repeating little sayings to get you through your tough days. It has taken me a few days to get back to her blog and comment, but today I wrote this:

I read something recently about "self talk" suggesting that if you tell yourself that you are enjoying yourself, then eventually you will. Does that make sense?

I hate emptying the dishwasher. I would rather scrub toilets than empty the dishwasher, and yet every morning a load of clean dishes is waiting for me.

So, I've been trying the self-talk thing and I say to myself: "I love clean dishes. I love clean dishes. I love clean dishes..." as I stack my plain-jane white corell plates and mismatched silverware. Maybe it's helping my attitude.

Although yesterday I noticed the dishwasher was ready to be emptied again and instead of saying "I love clean dishes" I said "Sydney - come empty the dishwasher" and I felt great!

***********

The only mantra running through my head tonight is this:

No life, without wife!

Which movie arrived from Netflix this weekend? I'll give you 3 guesses!

I'll be at Girls Camp next week. Reading your post put a little anxiety in me... I mean excitement, yeah, excitement. At least our camp's quiet time is from 10:30pm until 7:30am... and yet, somehow I still don't get enough sleep. Have a great week!!

I am not a fan of Bride and Prejudice. Bend it Like Beckham is one of my favorites but I really didn't like BAP. And I meant to do a post about it when I watched it, but never did... (On "good and bad 'Inspired By' movies.")

My mom got me the book Mommy Mantras last Mother's Day. It was interesting. I don't agree with everything in it, but some was good.

Have fun at Girls' Camp! *private shudder* ;)

Wendy, I love that you said, "my mind starts to go, then I have to start playing charades to finish sentences."

I can totally see you doing this and I know I get like that too! Twins!

Good luck with girls camp. Our ward's girls just had theirs and I keep hearing from adult women about how much they dreaded it and hated it, but I loved camp when we were kids. I hope you have fun!

i was really worried about girls camp too. it ended up not being bad at all. bring something for yourself to do. as a leader, unless you really want to, you don't have to go to the level work, craft or anything else they have going on.
we had some crazy people at camp. just keep in mind that it is camp, do your best to be on time, but sometimes things just happen.
can't wait to hear about your week!!!

I hope there are no cane spiders at girls camp. I'm still warped from that pic.

I loved Girls Camp and I'm glad you get to go. It sounds totally fun to me. :)

The movie sounds familiar...

Buy yourself some new pretty dishes. That'll help you want to do them. Well, until the novelty wears off. ;)

anne - you just need to practice your dancing - screw in the lightbulb and pet the dog!

Mary - I loved camp as a girl and I may even be more excited about camp than the girls....

Terina - we were painting our banner last night and I thought of you. Our stake camp leader is a little, um, how do you say, gung ho? (are you even allowed to use that term?) I have a feeling arriving late, or choosing not to participate will be punishable by reading scripture verse and/or general conference talks....

Tori - cane spiders. giant centipedes. cockroaches and ants in our food. should be great!

Millie - new dishes! brilliant!

I'd rather unload the dishwasher then scrub toliets anyday!!

Girls camp is sounding so fun!! I am sure it will be terrific. FYI - Janene was just called as the new YW president and Terri Holman was just called as the new stake young womens president. Fun!

Sewing for a shop on the North Shore? Making a little money on the side? How fun!!

Erin has a good point.

And tell more about sewing for the shop on the north shore. That sounds great!

Ok Wendy, I finally got a free minute to check out your blog and you make me laugh! You McBride sisters are too funny - glad I have a little "in" with your family. I completley agree with your comment on the dishwasher. I loath anything that has to do with dishes - dirty or clean. No amount of affirmation will make me like doing it more. Seems we have more in common than being military wives and moms to lots of kids!

I'm with you. I'd rather do toilets than dishes any day!

I loved Bride and Prejudice! I just wish we could have seen the leads kiss each other, but I guess that's not as common in Indian cinema...anyway, I'll use your idea for being happy about dishes and have "D" do it! LOL!

Good luck and have fun at Girl's camp! :)

Ahhhh, Girl's Camp. I have a secret dream of dump this whole Ward Activities calling and being the camp leader.

Of course they'll never call me to that. I like to think it's because of my young children but more along the lines of no one wants the liability of having ME lead their kids out in the wild. :-)

I hope you're having FUN!

Erin - you are right, thank goodness for a dishwasher.

Amanda - Janene will be so fun! I don't know if I'll make any money, but it was interesting to try. I'll just have to wait and see if they sell...

Hi Hannah!

NCS - I do love a clean sink, and that does motivate me to empty the dishwasher before the breakfast dishes hit. But...

Valorie - you are an amazing woman! I'm impressed by how great you are doing. You'll have to give me deployment advice.

Suzanne - I'm glad I'm not alone! I kind of think the no kiss was sweet.

Amber - you are going to be a great camp director when it's your turn!
