Swim

We love to swim.

We go to the base pool a couple times each week. (I originally typed "a couple of times." that's how I say it: "a couple-a times." But it looked wrong. How do you say that? Maybe I should just change it to "a few times", or "two times" or...)

John has really learned how to swim in the last few weeks. He says "something is floating me."

Today we rode our bikes to the pool. That was a little dangerous, but do-able.

With gas prices so high and me with a gas guzzling suburban, we are planning to use the car a little less by riding or walking when we can. We can walk to the commissary, library, pool, bowling alley, post office and movie theater. Yippee for living on base.

My plan for the summer is to take advantage of all the fun that we can have close to home, and plan big beach trips for Saturdays or for when we have to head downtown for other things (like tomorrow - Hannah has an ortho appointment in Honolulu, so while we're there we are going to do a short hike then head to Waikiki to swim.)

Are you driving less? Have the gas prices affected your summer plans? Are you considering investing in a horse and buggy or mo-ped?

Cool swimming pictures! We love the pool too. Lindsey and John will have so much fun swimming together! She is suddenly brave and able to use her arms and put her face under the water while kicking all at the same time (with floaties) and really can get around! It makes pool time so fun!

We are like you and can walk to lots of places - library, pool, walmarto, even the grocery store and target if I want to cross a really really big street. So last week I made it my goal to walk everywhere and I made it to Thursday without driving - but then we had 2 dentist appointments in other towns, a trip to fix Lindsey's glasses, and other errands that might just have voided the gas I saved earlier in the week.

Having to shop for seven I need to drive to the commissary but we are trying to walk more to the Shoppette, the pool that is close and the community center since they have a water feature area. I may need to invest in a little stroller for the Baby so he will be able to enjoy too.

I say "a couple of times" too!

We have a Yukon and Honda Accord. We only drive the Yukon if we need all the seats because I swear I hear it DRINKING as I drive.

Neato pool pictures.

We can't walk anywhere, except to txmommy's pool. :o) If there were sidewalks, we might be able to walk to the wally world, but it's about 1.5 miles away.

I'm just trying to have 2-3 days a week where we stay home and don't go anywhere. We're also doing better at grouping our errands together.

It is terribly interesting how people's driving habits change. Once I drive to the shopping area about 2 miles from my house, then I walk everywhere with in it.

When I lived in France for my student exchange program, I walked EVERYWHERE, like .. all the Europeans do..... So I have to say I just think about how much I used to walk more or less care-freely and the walking seems pretty minor.

Adam wanted to know why I had been driving around his new prius hybrid instead of my Dad's 15-mile to the gallon diesel. I said, "Honey Diesel is $5.19 a gallon here! It's not that I am trying to drive your new car, it that it is sooooo very expensive."

We are trying to do the same. I can walk to the store and the park. Other than that I try to plan all the errands together so I don't make trips everyday. Gas is $4.12 here. What is it there?

We're driving less, and it's painful. We live no where close to anything so we're staying home several days a week. Thank goodness we have a pool and some friends willing to come to it!

The proper jersey english would be " a couple a times" LOL.

I would drive less but I commute to Honolulu every day.. but the 4.03 a gallon I paid this morning stunk.

Love the pics at the pool.

Ha! We need a horse and buggy here I think :) We are certainly driving less. No travel plans this summer- too expensive!! For the first time I'm actually considering that motorcycle my husband has wanted for years...

The underwater pictures are great!

Hi Wendy,
James and I traded in our Suburban, but we only got a smaller SUV. It does save on gas mileage a little though. We walk when we can and we have even taken the new front runner train a few times. It's better than I-15 traffic.

I wish that we lived a wee bit closer to town so that we didn't have to drive everywhere. :( I am supposed to go to Utah next month, but I don't know....

Cool swimming pictures!! We got season passes to the pool, the indoor pool since it hasn't been very warm yet. It has been a lot of fun so far! :)
