And the Winner is:

A Payne with Wendy's Tiki Hut, Coconut Bra's and Grass Skirts Optional.

The runners up are Sand In My Shorts (so true) by Heather, Lost in Oahu by Mary, Wahooo Oahu by Deanne, and the very classy Leprosy Free in Hawaii by Millie. It was so hard to choose, and Nathan was getting sick of me asking him if I like this one or that one better. I hope you like my new name, and my address should stay the same (I hope.) I want to change the layout, but the computer at this place never lets me on, so it would be a miracle if it lets me.

A. Payne will recieve one plastic authentic Hawaiian (made in China) lei, one small paper umbrella, one baggie of actual Hawaiian sand. The runners up will recieve one baggie of authentic Hawaiian sand. If you are interested in recieving this great prize, email me at wbarrm at yahoo dot com (change the at to @ and the dot to .)

We are having a great time here in Hawaii. The flight over nearly did me in, but a few days relaxing on the beach and floating on the surf and I feel great! My hair, on the other hand is having difficulties - the humidity is making it Ka-razy! My hair has a teeny bit of curl in it, not enough to be curly, though. So it is fuzzy and puffy here. And when I get sweaty the under part of it gets curly.

We are figuring out our housing today. There are no homes available on Hickam AFB, but we will be checking out one on Schofield Barracks today. It is on the Army Post (not base) where Nathan will be working. So far I have gotten 3 "oooh, I would never live on an Army Post" comments. I wonder if they have warts or something.

The beach is great. The sun always shines. There is a fragrant floral scent in the air. The language and cultural difference is cool. And I feel almost tall here. Come on over!

Yeah!! I'm so glad to hear that you're all safe and enjoying your new place. AND I'm so glad to no longer see "White Glove Inspection" when I check your blog! :) Thanks for updating us, your loyal fans.

Wendy's Tiki Hut is a great name! You certainly had quite a list to choose from! What fun!

Have you tried finding a new shampoo that helps with friz? I don't know if it would really help or not....you never know if the gimick is just a gimick or if it really can live up to it's claim. Anyway, it's a thought.

Is the living in the barracks a long term solution or will that be until find another place? I love the smell of Plumeria (assuming that is what you are smelling). We honymooned in Maui and I fell in love with those simply beatiful flowers!

Enjoy your new home!

Deanne
(I'm having issues with Blogger...posting comments is becoming a real issue, hence the 'anonymous' post) arghhh!

I feel so honored to be a runner up! Can't wait for my sand.

Glad your back, I've missed you. Good luck with the hair, maybe just shave it off. That way after surfing lessons you won't have to wait for it to dry!

Look! The internet is working twice today! Deanne - military housing is just regular homes, not barracks - although there are barracks for single guys (and gals) but usually just when they are in training.

We just "leased" our new place - it looks cute, it is 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath with a one car garage. We have been considering buying, but we decided to go with a 6 month lease so that we can get to know the area a little before buying.

The flowers are great! All kinds, and colors! You can see why they wear flowers in their hair and as necklaces.

Heather - first surf lessons tomorrow!

I like the new look! Wow....really?, surf lessons tomorrow??? So cool! Will you teach me?? ;) I'd so come out just so I could learn (if you promise to help me learn).

I totally understand about leasing/renting first, that's what we are doing. Well, there are other reasons for renting (for us), cost is a factor and our house back in MI hadn't sold (is rented out now. yes, we are landlords).

As you can see I no longer have issues with blogger. I finally went beta. I think that is the reason for my logging in problems. Oh well, it works now and that's all that matters.

Hooray, I am so glad to hear about Hawaii. I totally know all about frizz problems. Salt Water is awesome for wavey hair though. When you go swimming in the ocean, don't brush your hair afterwards, or if you do use a wide tooth comb, and then scrunch your hair. It will be so curly and lovely. Never brush your hair while it is dry, and I usually do my major brushing in the shower, and then just a "de-tangle" after I take my hair out of the towel. Wavey hair is a curse, and most shampoos just dry it out. I take a shower everyday (incase anyone questioned that!!) but I don't use shampoo everyday, usually helps with the poof. anyhoo, I may be a wee bit obsessed with what to do to make my hair less Ka-razy.
sincerely, Frizz-master poof, Anna

Yes! The smell.
I love the way Hawaii smells.

Good luck with finding a suitable tiki hut!

Yeah! You are back! I have so missed you and have been going crazy waiting to see how things are going since your last email. Your new look is way cute, but it almost threw me off when the page came up.

I'm glad you have a place to rent. Is it a base house or is it off base? I think renting first for a bit is a great idea so you can get to know the area and not feel rushed to buy something right away. Now you can take your time.

Are you really taking surfing lessons today? Really? Man alive, I'm so jealous. And you feel tall? Wahoo!

I don't have the hair poof factors as I didn't inherit that gene, but I do get flip-ups. I know, it's rough.

I sent mail to you at your friend's house today. I hope it makes it to you guys.

Now we live on TOTAL opposite sides of the country. You and I couldn't be much farther apart and still be in the US (unless we moved to Maine).

Sorry for the novel, I'm just so glad to see you back! Time to vacuum.

SEE MOM! I DID AMOUNT TO SOMETHING!

I'm glad you liked the name. First I would like to thank all the other nominees, I feel honored to be among you, I share this award with all of you...

I will absolutely be collecting my prize, it is well earned, indeed!

I am glad to hear that you are safe and happy in your new island home. Embrace to frizzies, work with them, not against them. Straight, sleek hair is overated. I swear if I lived in Hawaii would wear a flower behind my ear everyday!

YAY! There you are!
Yay for the name!!! A Payne is so talented her parents should be proud. The look is great too.

Aaah, floating on the surf, the beach, the floral scent...and now you even feel tall! sounds like you are having an awesome time :)

Sorry about the hair, mine did the same thing when I visited Mexico, it’s not pretty, best bet at this point is braids (NOT cornrows).

Wendy's back!!! Wendy's back!!! Yipee!!! Okay, calming down now.

I am so glad that you guys are doing well and surving life in paradise.

Had our ward christmas party tonight. Very nice. The Smith's did a slideshow of Christ to the song "Everything I do I do it for you" by Bryan Adams. That was a little interesting!

Anyway, we miss you guys!

Well done A Payne! Wendy's Tiki Hut is very cute!

I was so excited to click on your blog and find your new layout! I've missed getting to read your posts. Hopefully, you'll be able to find a place to settle down and unpacking won't take forever! :)

It's an honor just to be nominated!!!! Congrats to a payne! I'm excited to get my real live sand from Hawaii!

But I'm a little surprised that you didn't want to have the word "leprosy" in your blog name.

;)

I'll have me a Shirley Temple, straight up!

Sooooo, how does May sound for a visit from the Illinois side of the family?

I'm so glad you guys are reading even though I only get to update once a week or so.

Surf lessons - I'll need to do a whole blog on it, but Nathan, Hannah and Sydney went surfing Saturday with a friend from work - we were all going to go, but then I decided 5 hours in the sun would be too long for Emily and John - we'll go next month. But Hannah and Nathan both were able to get up on their feet, and Sydney rode some waves sitting on the front of her surfboard, while a big Islander stood at the back - like a little princess!

Amanda - the slideshow totally made me bust out laughing in this quiet lobby! he he he!

Laurie - We can't wait to host our first visitors - if you want to read up on the island, Oahu Revealed is my favorite guide book.

You guys are great!
